On Spiritual Success
A client of mine recently asked me what spiritual success is to me. My first answer, I don’t know; but after a few moments I came to - it depends!
Success in our society may be financial freedom, time to do whatever you wish or having all the earthly possessions you desire. Success in our families may be for us to be healthy physically, mentally and emotionally, along with the ability to be there for our loved ones whenever they may need. But how about spiritual success?
A quick reminder — my perspective in life and my work centers around the spirit — the idea that we are energetic divine creations living out a brief physical existence drives me to explore this immense Universe. Which meant that I of course had to delve into what spiritual success could be!
So here is my answer and I’d love to hear your response to this…Spiritual success is the realization and actualization of the greatest expression of ourselves today. OK David, those are a lot of words, now what does it mean?
I mean that as this spiritual being who can be anything, you choose who you wish to be and what you wish to do and you commit to that right now such that you embody that fully. I also mean that if today you are not feeling your greatest, you are not feeling as if you are living purposefully, then that realization means you’re on the path so keep going. Then you keep going and be just a little more you tomorrow.
Financial success, professional success, outward success does not matter unless they are a part of your greatest expression of yourself to yourself. Also, your greatest expression of yourself likely will not follow the recipe or script that someone else has set out for themselves. Yours will be uniquely yours and you must let yourself love that.
Therefore, your spiritual success may be being an ever evolving curious being, a never ending student of life, a beautifully messy artist, a loving and present parent, a driven and ambitious professional, or whatever your unique mix of self desires. Can you give yourself a moment to decide what your greatest expression of yourself is today and take one step forward towards that?
